A $10-million-plus indoor television antenna could be the ultimate TV entertainment experience in your home.
And that’s exactly what’s being touted by the folks behind the idea.
The antenna would be mounted inside the ceiling of an existing outdoor TV set, with the power being fed to the antenna via a USB hub.
This is similar to how an outdoor antenna sits on a ceiling, allowing it to be used in a variety of situations.
However, the technology could also be used to produce an indoor antenna that is connected to a central TV set via a remote control, allowing for more flexibility when it comes to viewing live TV in the house.
“We want to make the indoor antenna a dream for the DIY and the tech-savvy to enjoy,” the company behind the project, iGiant, wrote on its website.
The company also claims the antenna is able to be connected to the same TV set as a traditional outdoor antenna, allowing the user to control their set from the couch.
While this could sound like an obvious feature, iNIGHT Entertainment, a company that specializes in making outdoor TV antennas, says it has received a number of requests for a “dynamic antenna.”iNIGHT said the concept of using the antenna in this way is similar in design to that of an outdoor cable television set, which is typically mounted on a wall or ceiling.
It also claims a number the company said are in demand are for a more advanced antenna.
“If you’ve got an outdoor TV antenna that’s up on the wall, it’s not going to be able to provide the full picture, and this is why the Dynamic antenna solution allows us to achieve the best picture quality and picture quality is not just about size, it also means that it’s also connected to your TV and the antenna itself,” iNIGHTS co-founder and CEO, Matt Kestrel, told CBC News.
“The Dynamic antenna also provides additional features like a switch that you can turn on and off to change the picture quality.”
The company has been working with an electronics company called Adafruit to make its antenna, and it’s hoping to begin production in early 2017.
“Adafruit has developed a set of advanced antennas, which can be used with any of the many wireless and Bluetooth devices we have in our office, and we are now working with our manufacturers to develop a set that will be compatible with those devices,” the iNights website reads.
The iNAMES website also notes the company is in talks with TV distributors in Australia and New Zealand to build its antenna.
The technology is being developed by iNighters engineers who are also working on other products.
