Posted December 21, 2018 05:05:07In a new development in the Australian political battle, the ABC’s digital feed has been temporarily turned off after being hacked.
A number of feeds have been blocked in recent days as the ABC attempts to restore some of its internet functionality.
The feed, which is based on the US-based NBC News feed, was blocked on Thursday night following an attack by a group of hackers known as Anonymous.
The ABC’s Facebook page was also briefly taken offline after it was hacked on Friday, with its users complaining the page was down for almost three hours.ABC News has reached out to the ABC for comment and will update this story when we receive a response.
In a statement on Friday evening, the group behind the hack said it was “defending the rights of the internet and freedom of speech”.
“We want to thank everyone for the support, and the internet,” the statement read.
“We’ve never hacked anything in our lives, so we know how it works.”
We’ve seen a number of messages from our Facebook page that were not in line with our rules, so our team has reviewed all our messages and found a few we could use for our next feed.
“If the message is taken down, we will be using it in the next feed and you can be assured that we will keep it up to date.”ABC News’ Rohan Macdonald and Ben Dutton contributed to this report.
